FireFlex Accelerator and Dehydrator Options

The FireFlex Accelerator E-1 is a quick-opening device used on supported pneumatic preaction configurations to speed valve action when faster trip response is beneficial to the design, and it should only be selected when the system supports accelerated pneumatic operation. A dehydrator reduces moisture in the air supplied to dry or air-supervised piping, helping reduce internal moisture-related corrosion and support better long-term piping condition. It is typically selected when supervisory air is used and dry air quality or corrosion reduction is a project priority.

Accelerator E-1

Meaning: The Viking Model E-1 accelerator is a quick-opening device. FireFlex documentation states it may be used without the anti-flood device to speed the action of a pneumatic release system on a preaction system.

Choose the accelerator when:

  • The selected pneumatic configuration supports it
  • Faster valve operation is beneficial to the design
  • The engineer wants improved actuation speed in a pneumatic system

Do not choose it when:

  • The selected system does not support it
  • The design does not call for accelerated pneumatic action

Dehydrator

Meaning: A dehydrator is used to reduce moisture in the air supplied to dry or air-supervised piping.

Why it matters: Drier air helps reduce internal moisture-related corrosion and supports better long-term system condition.

Choose the dehydrator when:

  • The system uses supervisory air
  • Corrosion reduction is a project priority
  • The owner wants better long-term piping condition and air quality
Quick selection guide
  • Accelerator: choose for supported pneumatic systems when faster trip response is desired
  • Dehydrator: choose when dry air quality and corrosion reduction matter
