FireFlex Installation Planning: What Should Be Confirmed Before Startup?
Before a FireFlex system is put into service, confirm that the unit is installed according to technical data, the piping network is complete, drains are properly connected, detection and signaling are installed, and preliminary inspection steps are complete. Startup should only occur after the basic installation checklist is already satisfied.
FireFlex integrated systems are factory assembled and tested, but field installation still determines whether the unit will perform as intended. Issues such as restricted drains, incorrect wiring, incomplete detection circuits, or layout deviations can compromise performance.
What to verify first
1. Unit placement and mounting
Confirm the system has been installed in the correct location with proper service clearance and support. Check that the cabinet sits level and that door access is unobstructed.
2. Water, drain, and discharge connections
Depending on the system type, verify all required field connections are complete and match the design documents. For ICAF specifically, FireFlex documentation states the drain collector shall be connected to an open drain and the drain piping must not be restricted or reduced.
3. Piping network completion
For systems with field-installed networks, confirm the piping is installed according to the approved layout and within the manufacturer’s design limitations. FireFlex ICAF source material states any deviations from the original layout should be submitted for review before shipment.
4. Detection and signaling
Where applicable, ensure releasing piping, detection circuits, alarm circuits, and control wiring are installed in accordance with applicable NFPA standards and the system requirements.
5. Power supply and control compatibility
For remote-controlled systems, confirm the compatible listed release control panel is in place and that the connected actuators and devices match the required listing and control arrangement.

Documentation and final checks
Before startup, confirm that the site team has access to the owner’s manual, operation and maintenance instructions, approved technical data, shop drawings as required, and manufacturer design manuals where applicable. Verify valves are in correct position, gauges read as expected, supervisory devices are wired, the drain path is open, field accessories match the order, detectors and releasing logic are correct, the room or hazard area is ready for testing, and required stakeholders are present for commissioning.
